Our client is a diversified global automotive supplier engaged in the design, development and manufacturing of metal parts, assemblies and modules, complex fluid management systems and aluminum products.

Position Summary

The Assistant Plant Controller will be responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Tuscaloosa manufacturing facility. This role will provide leadership in areas of cost control, financial analysis, budgeting, and compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards. The Assistant Plant Controller partners closely with plant operations, corporate finance, and senior management to ensure accurate financial reporting and performance tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting packages.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process, including variance analysis and operational performance reporting.
  • Lead and maintain accurate cost accounting records: standard costs, bill of materials, labor, overhead, and variance analysis.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to improve cost efficiency, scrap reduction, and overall plant profitability.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of financial data within ERP systems (Epicor and SMS/ES400).
  • Monitor and enforce internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and internal policies.
  • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to identify cost-saving initiatives and process improvements.
  • Coordinate physical inventories and cycle counts to ensure accuracy of inventory valuation.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure all audit requests are completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and present financial reports and KPIs to plant and divisional leadership.

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing environment; automotive industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis.
  • ERP system experience required: Epicor and/or SMS (ES-400) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, financial modeling).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a plant environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a non-centralized plant structure with minimal oversight.
