This position supports foundry operations by performing grinding, sanding, cleaning, and general utility tasks to finish castings and maintain workflow. The role focuses on removing excess metal, preparing castings for inspection or machining, and assisting with material handling and shop upkeep.
Operate pedestal grinders, hand grinders, belt sanders, and other finishing tools
Remove gates, risers, flash, and surface imperfections from castings
Smooth and shape cast surfaces to meet quality and dimensional requirements
Inspect castings during and after grinding to identify defects or rework needs
Follow proper techniques to avoid over grinding or damaging castings
Sand castings to achieve required surface finish
Prepare parts for painting, coating, or further machining
Use abrasive tools safely and efficiently
Maintain sanding equipment and replace consumables as needed
Move castings between workstations using hoists, carts, or manual handling
Assist molders, coremakers, or furnace operators as needed
Clean work areas, remove scrap metal, and maintain general shop organization
Load and unload castings, tooling, and materials
Support production flow by completing miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors
Wear required PPE including face shields, respirators, gloves, and hearing protection
Follow all safety procedures related to grinding, dust exposure, and material handling
Maintain awareness of sparks, hot surfaces, and airborne particulates
Report unsafe conditions or equipment issues immediately
Experience with grinders, sanders, or metal finishing tools (preferred)
Ability to work in a high heat, high noise industrial environment
Strong attention to detail and quality standards
Ability to lift and move heavy castings
Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools
Willingness to perform repetitive tasks with consistent accuracy
Frequent standing, bending, and manual handling
Exposure to dust, sparks, noise, and heavy machinery
Fast paced production environment with tight deadlines
